On Monday, January 6, 2020, the Lynnville-Sully School Board of Education held a special meeting to review a special election needed for school safety and ongoing school district maintenance and improvements. Board Secretary Karla De Cook presented 106 signatures gathered on a petition to satisfy the requirements needed of the three area counties of Jasper, Poweshiek, and Mahaska for a special election.

With all board members present including Tammy Vos, Jer Schnell, Dave Foster, Amanda Jones, and Gerry Van Dyke, a unanimous roll call vote approved a resolution on calling an election on the proposition of issuing bonds for the purposes of specific school building projects. The $4,500,000 bond issue includes numerous repairs, maintenance, and improvements to the 1959 high school and 1981 elementary/middle building. School safety and additional physical education and co-curricular space is also part of the bond issue.
