This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years,” represented the final year of the National Fire Protection Association’s three-year effort to educate the public about basic but essential elements of smoke alarm safety. Lynnville, Searsboro, and Sully Volunteer Fire Departments teamed up with the NFPA to bring fire safety and awareness to local elementary students earlier this fall on Oct. 19. In addition to presentations and a tour of the S.A.F.E. House, the departments challenged Lynnville-Sully and Sully Christian School elementary students to create eye-catching posters to convey the important message. The top three winners from third, fourth, and fifth grade were recently awarded cash prizes. Representing the departments were Brenda Terpstra (Lynnville), Robert Matteson, Jr. (Searsboro), and Lisa Foster (Sully).
