Hawk netters defeat NM in close matchup

The competition was tight but the Hawk volleyball team was tough and battled for a 3-1 SICL Conference win over North Mahaska on Monday, Sept. 25. The win came after a week of no games for L-S and bumps the Hawks’ record to 8-9 overall. Set scores were 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, and 25-20.

Junior Carson Fisk was the Hawks’ go-to hitter, finishing the night with 12 of the team’s 30 kills. Other top hitters were senior McKinley Conover with six and junior Shiloh Cunningham with five.

As a team, the Hawks made 106 of 115 serves (92 percent) with seven aces. Senior Camryn Russell had some key serves, going 32-of-35 with three aces. Cunningham made 19 of her 21 serves, and Conover connected on 16 of 17 serves with one ace. The L-S team currently leads the conference in total number of aces.

The top diggers were Cunningham with 24, Fisk with 23, and Conover with 21.

Russell and Conover were at the top of the blocks chart with eight and six respectively.

The girls are in the midst of another week off and will return to action at Tri-County on Monday, Oct. 2, and then will host English Valleys on Thursday, Oct. 5.
