Hawks pull off exciting win versus the Mustangs

Facing off against East Marshall on Thursday, Dec. 22, the Hawks were very evenly matched against the Mustangs. L-S entered the fourth quarter down by one point and battled to take the win 67-65.

“It was a great ballgame. Both teams did a lot of nice things. It was great to see the boys stay mentally tough and find a way to win late,” said head coach Nick Harthoorn.

The Hawks offense was led by two juniors: Jesse Van Wyk, who finished the night with 18 points, and Tanner Foster, ending with 16. Junior Brevin Hansen and sophomore Rylan James finished with 10 points each.

“Offensively, it was a good night, Jesse and Tanner were shooting really well. It was a fun atmosphere with the excitement of how close the game was, and it made it fun going back and forth all night,” said Hansen.

Senior Tyler Van Zante and junior Corey McCoy both ended the night with five points, and senior John Trettin had three.

On the boards was Foster leading the way with seven, then James with six, and Hansen and Van Wyk coming down with four apiece. Van Zante and McCoy ended the night with three rebounds each, and Trettin had one.

Van Wyk led the way in assists with five, Van Zante had three, Hansen had two, and Trettin and sophomore Tyson Vander Linden had one each.

The Hawks have a break until Jan. 3, when they travel to Tri-County to face the Trojans.
