L-S earns two Division I ratings at state speech contest

Lynnville-Sully was well represented at the state large group speech contest held at Linn Mar High School on Saturday, Feb. 3. Two groups advanced to the state contest with Division I ratings earned at districts, and brought home two more Division I ratings from the state level.

The nine-member choral reading group of “Bloodwork,” costumed in all black and red capes to portray the vampire theme, earned two Division I ratings and one Division II rating from the three judges to earn an overall Division I rating at state.

The duo of Madison Johnson and Andrea Bogaard delivered a hilarious “Airline Calamity” ensemble act and also earned two Division I ratings and one Division II rating for an overall Division I state rating. The groups are coached by Ms. Melinda Hardin and Mrs. Amber Mathis.

Lynnville-Sully’s chorale reading group received a Division I rating at state: Front, left to right, Maddeline Mintle, Mary Kate Shaver, Tessa Van Maanen, Shaleah Van Wyk; back, Maren Egging, Shiloh Cunningham, Kayla Van Dyke, Kaylee Maasdam, and Hunter McCoy.

Madison Johnson and Andrea Bogaard had the audience in stitches with their Division I-rated state ensemble act titled “Airline Calamity.”
