Lynnville-Sully head girls basketball coach Jerry Hulsing is the 2018 recipient of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Golden Plaque of Distinction Award in basketball. Hulsing will receive his award on Friday night, Mar. 2, at halftime of the girls Class 4A state championship game held at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The Golden Plaque of Distinction honors the Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community, and the coaching profession.

Hulsing has been coaching girls basketball for 27 seasons, the last 26 at Lynnville-Sully. He coached the Hawks to one of the most dominant runs in the history of the Iowa five- player game when his team won 83 straight games from December 1996 to December of 1999. After finishing second in Class 1A in 1996, he won three straight Class 1A state crowns in 1997, 1998, and 1999. One of his players from that era, Jessica (Nikkel) Maston, is in the IGHSAU Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jerry Hulsing, center, L-S girls basketball coach, will receive the IGHSAU Golden Plaque Award. He is joined by Shane Ehresman, superintendent, left, and Bob Scandridge, athletic director, right.
