Saturday morning, Feb. 25, was a hectic morning for the Individual Speech District Contest sites as eight out of the 12 were delayed due to snow and ice. Lynnville-Sully speech students, however, were able to start on time at Newton High School, undeterred by the circumstances hitting much of the state.

Nine high school students under the direction of Ms. Melinda Hardin, high school language arts teacher, and Ms. Lexus Waymire, K-12 music instructor, went up against hundreds of other students to get the coveted Division I ratings, which allow them to perform at the Iowa High School State Speech Contest on Mar. 11 at Vinton Shellsburg High School. The students participated in a total of 13 events and brought home eight Division I ratings (advance to state) and five Division II ratings.
